Once again the Census Bureau does a wonderful job of explaining basic facts about the foreign-born numbers in the United States.
A great discussion and explanation: C-SPAN: U.S. Foreign Born Population
Interesting fact:
- About 17% of all foreign-born in the United States arrived since 2005. Within that group — foreign-born arrivals since 2005 — 14% came from Mexico; 23% from China and 28% from India.
(And please remember that the Census Bureau does not look at the legal status of the foreign-born.)
This discussion offers so many opportunities for local reporters to do stories with international links. If nothing else, stories about the holidays and cultural events of the immigrant communities make for good feature stories.
